I'm not going to lie; I bought this helmet because it goes with my bike!!! However, that said, it is a great helmet! It lets lots of air through when working hard, and fits well.
This is Specialized cheapest road helmet. I used it for 18 months, never had a problem. Once I put it on I never knew it was there. The padding held up perfectly even though I am a world class sweater. Then, the big one. I was in a long pace line, about number ten, going 24 mph and the 3rd and 4th bikes tangled, big pile up, I landed on my head and left shoulder. I broke three ribs, sprained my back, got some road rash, a big ol'bruise on my chest. The liner of my helmet broke in two places, the outside was scratched but intact, best part, my head was undamaged. Best $60.00 I ever spent.
I came in to the store looking for a helmet simply because my old BMX style was just way too chunky and heavy and offered absolutely zero ventilation. Considering I do a lot of miles per week on my road bike, the ventilation is very welcome. I was in the market for an average entry-level helmet that would offer good ventilation and be lighter than my current one. The Specialized Echelon did just that. Albeit not as light as some of the 200+ dollar helmets, it does it's job of protecting my head just fine, and offers an ample amount of air flow through its numerous vents. That, and it matched the color combination of my bike.
